Scale Drawings Card Sort Activity

Last week I posted a Common Core Lesson Plan on Teachers Pay Teachers titled "Scale Drawings".  I used this with my students to gain conceptual knowledge of Scale Drawings and how to approach and solve word problems for these types of problems. My students liked this activity as it gave them a better understanding of how to visualize the word problem with a picture and then calculate the answer. With this activity my students improved their scores 100%! Can't be much happier with an activity than that. :)

The Common Core Benchmark addressed is: CCSS.Math.Content.7.G.A.1
Solve problems involving scale drawings of geometric figures, including computing actual lengths and areas from a scale drawing and making a scale drawing at a different scale.

This lesson unit is intended to help you assess how well students are able to solve problems involving scale drawings of geometric figures, including computing actual lengths and areas from a scale drawing and reproducing a scale drawing at a different scale.

Included in this lesson are:

-two formative assessment (pre-test) tasks

-card sort activity with concept development of scale drawings

-one extension activity for students to deepen their conception of scale drawings

-two summative assessment (post-test) tasks

-answer keys for all the assessments and activities
